In a faith culture that deeply values service, progress, and consecrated effort, stillness can feel almost suspicious—like we’re not doing enough. This episode reframes stillness as a sacred form of trust: a way of letting God speak, heal, reveal, and transform us beneath all our holy busyness.

Why does your scripture have beheadings, curses, drowned civilizations, and even a bear mauling, and why did nobody mention that in Sunday School? We're pulling the "weird" and "disturbing" stories out of hiding from all the books of scripture and asking the question underneath them all: what do we actually do with a text that unsettles us? Come for the gore, stay for the theology.

What is the second hour actually for?
With the new shortened Sunday School, Relief Society, and elders quorum meetings, it’s easy to focus on logistics: transitions, lesson length, announcements, and whether teachers can do anything meaningful in 25 minutes. But maybe the question isn’t whether we can make the lesson fit into the allotted time. Maybe it’s whether anyone is remembered, nourished, relieved, or sent out to love. However it is that we do that.

wo people can grow up in the same church (in the same ward, and even family!) and walk away with completely different memories of what they were taught. And they both can be telling the truth when they share those memories with others.
This episode digs into why that's so hard for us to sit with, what our psychology and theology say about it, and why "that's not what I experienced" should never be used as an argument-ender.

You pray, and you don’t get a grand, dramatic answer. You get asked about times when you’ve felt the Spirit, and you can’t think of something recent. Does it mean something’s wrong with you? Does it mean you don’t have enough faith? We think the answer is no. Most of life is spent in the in-between times, between the big spiritual moments you can describe. And that in-between isn't the absence of faith. It *is* faith.

The beauty of the modern revelation of eternal progression in place of eternal damnation is a doctrine of mercy. It is better for all of us to focus on that loving doctrine rather than scaring people into obedience.

What does it mean to love what is real, without giving up hope for what could be? In this episode, we explore acceptance not as approval or resignation, but as the honest seeing that makes love, grief, boundaries, and faithful hope possible — for our children, our ward members, ourselves, and the Church. This is the challenge we all face at one time or another: how do we stop loving the picture in our heads, and begin loving what is actually in front of us?
